RESIDENTS OF NSUKKA ON LAST MINUTE RUSH TO BEAT FRIDAY DEADLINE ON VOTER REGISTRATION

Residents of Enugu State have been called upon to ensure they register in the ongoing voter registration before the end of the exercise on Friday this week.

Some Stakeholders in the State made the call while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Nsukka.

As the Friday deadline for the extension of the Continuous Voter Registration draws nearer, the Traditional ruler of Uhunowerre Community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Sunday Ogbonna said election offered the electorate the chance to either endorse the performance of elected officials seeking re-election or vote out those whose performance fall short of their mandate.

He called on the people of his community who had not registered to rush to the nearest registration centre close to them before the closing date.

In another interview, with a onetime Mayor of Nsukka Urban, Chief Joseph Ugwuoke noted that the extension had increased the number of prospective voters at registration centres and appealed to INEC to decentralize the exercise to register more people in the area.

On his part, the Party Chairman, Peoples’ Democratic Party, Nsukka Local Government Area, Chief Fabian Onah said the extension gave them the opportunity to play some vital roles in their various wards by mobilizing more people to register.

Also contributing, the Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Senator Chukwuka Utazi stated that efforts had been made to make sure that his constituents participated in the exercise.

When radio Nigeria visited some of the registration centres, the turnout was impressive, but they called on INEC to provide more machines to facilitate the exercise.
