PDP WINS ORU EAST, ORSU & ORLU FED CONSTITUENCY RE-RUN

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has declared Chief Jerry Alagboso of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of last Saturday’s supplementary election for Oru East, Orsu and Orlu Federal Constituency of Imo State.

The Returning Officer, Dr. Emma Anakwuba, said Chief Alagboso polled a twenty-two thousand, four hundred and seventy-five votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr. Edwin Iheanacho of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored twenty thousand, eight hundred and fourteen votes.

Dr. Anakwuba said the PDP candidate having scored the highest number of valid votes cast was returned elected.

Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu, expressed regret that hoodlums disrupted collation of results in Orlu Saturday night thereby making the commission to suspend the exercise.

He said many people, including the collation officer, sustained injuries hence the exercise was relocated to INEC headquaters in Owerri for conclusion.

The supplementary election was ordered by an appeal court sitting in Owerri following a petition challenging the earlier declaration of Chief Alagboso of the PDP as winner of the election in 2019.
