The governorship candidate of Advance Congress Democrat in the just-concluded Anambra State Governorship election, Mrs. Oby Okafor, has commended the INEC and the security agencies on the peaceful conduct of the election in the State.

Mrs. Okafor made the commendation while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the election in Awka.

She observed that no life was lost during the exercise against speculations from some quarters.

Mrs. Oby who is also the Chairman of the party, said INEC lived up to the expectations of the people of the State in particular and Nigerians in general.

The governorship candidate, who congratulated Governor Willie Obiano on his victory, urged him to carry everybody along in the process of governance, especially the women.

Mrs. Okafor called on all the people of the state to rally round Governor Obiano to enable him to provide the required amenities to the people of the State, as the victory belonged to them.

Also, the Independent National Electoral Commission has been commended for the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in Anambra state.

The Archbishop of Enugu ecclesiastical province and the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma, made this known while speaking with Radio Nigeria on the recent governorship election in Anambra state.

The Most Reverend Chukwuma further commended the security agencies for being alive to their responsibilities.

He pleaded with Governor Willy Obiano to sustain the good work which endeared him to the people and advised all those that lost the election to close ranks to advance the fortunes of the state.

“I congratulate the Governor, Willie Obiano and appeal to him to do his job without any selective negligence and let there be fairness, equity in his governance. Meanwhile all elections in Nigeria should take their example and queue behind Anambra election, which has gone peacefully and without any problem. There should not be any protest and there should not be no going to court because Anambrarians have decided.”

Similarly, the former security of people’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Steve Orurua said the election was free, and fair.

He urged all the contestants and supporters of the parties to accept the result as the people’s choice.

“APGA has found its roots very comfortably situated in Anambra State. Again, it is an election you have to give a lot of kudos to the APC for the kind of the fight to the extent that they managed to come second against all propaganda.”

An indigenous member of Anambra, Mr. Okey Nwandu expressed worry over alleged sharing of gift items during the election and advised INEC to be more committed to their duty, though he scored the process high.

“I am very delighted by the success of the election.”
