NIGERIANS CALL FOR PROSECUTION OF THOSE FOUND CULPABLE IN INVASION OF THE SENATE

More reactions have trailed the snatching of the mace at the Senate Chamber as the Police announce the recovery of the legislative symbol of authority.

Political stakeholders in Anambra State are wondering how the thugs who allegedly carried out the attack were able to beat the National Assembly security and made away with the mace.

They described the invasion by the hoodlums as an affront on the country’s democracy

They have therefore called for the urgent overhaul of the security apparatus at the National Assembly complex to guard against a recurrence.

A Political Economist, Comrade Okey Onyeama said the incident was shocking and capable of undermining the nation’s democracy.

Contributing, a Public Affairs Analyst, Comrade Obi Ochije said what played out in the Senate was shameful.

An Octogenarian and Political Leader, High Chief Chukwuka Onuko urged youths and the political class to conduct themselves properly.

Similarly,a former Member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr. Nwabueze Ugwu described the incident as a treasonable act and coup against the Nation’s Democracy.

Mr Ugwu who is also a Constitutional Lawyer demands that citizens who saw and alerted the Police on the missing mace should tell Nigerians more about it.

An Enugu based Lawyer and Public Affairs Analyst,Mr Basil Obijuru expressed the fear that democracy in the country would witness worst scenarios if the issue was treated with levity.

Mr. Obijuru called for the prosecution of all those found culpable in the invasion.

A Political Scientist, Dr Ifeanyi Odoziobodo commended the Police for the recovery of the mace and enjoined security Operators to beef up security at the National Assembly.
