LOCKDOWN: ABIA CP SETS UP MONITORING TEAM TO CURB EXTORTION AT CHECKPOINTS
The Commissioner of Police Abia State, Mr. Ene Okon, says the command has set up a monitoring team that will arrest and prosecute any security personnel found extorting money from motorists at checkpoints and borders of the state during the ongoing lockdown.
Mr. Okon stated this while interacting with Radio Nigeria in Umuahia.
He noted that the command would not tolerate any form of sharp practice from security agencies positioned at checkpoints and borders within the state as government battled to contain the spread of COVID 19.
The Police Commissioner assured the people that their safety would be guaranteed during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that the two security officers, a Police officer and a Civil Defense corps operative, that were allegedly involved in extra-judicial killings of persons in the state as a result of the lockdown e” had been arrested and investigations into the matter had commenced.
The Police boss advised the people to always adhere to government’s directive on stay at home during the lockdown in order to stay safe from contracting the deadly virus.
