INEC ON A 3- DAY TRAINING OF ITS LG OFFICERS IN THE SOUTH EAST FOR EFFECTIVE CONDUCT OF 2019 ELECTIONS

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is embarking on  a three day training of its Local Government officers across the south east on new modalities for the conduct of the forthcoming elections.

The South east officers who converged on Owerri for the exercise were expected to train the ad hoc staff that would participate in the elections at the Local Government level.

At the opening of the programme in Owerri, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu said the training was aimed at building the capacity of its officers in the Local Government Areas on some innovations developed for the smooth conduct of the 2019 polls.

He said measures had been taken to ensure that only credible and traceable persons were engaged as ad hoc staff for the elections.

A Deputy Director, Electoral Training INEC  Office Abuja, Mr. Ifeanyi Agoha said card readers had been enhanced for greater efficiency while measures had also been taken to ensure that physically challenged persons were not disenfranchised.

The exercise is taking place simultaneously in all the geo-political zones in the country.
