IHEDIOHA SWAERS-IN NEW COMMISSIONERS AND SPECIAL ADVISERS

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State says his administration is committed towards ensuring that contracts for the reconstruction and repair of roads are awarded at the end of the rainy season.

The Governor stated this during the inauguration of commissioners and Special Advisers at Ahiajoku Convention Center Owerri.

Chief Ihedioha explained that the task of rebuilding Imo State should be a collective effort.

This, according to the Governor, is due to poor infrastructure, violation of established master plan, dilapidated class rooms, slashed salary and unpaid pensioners that the state inherited from the past administration.

He appealed to Imo people to exercise patience, stressing that the team of the newly inaugurated commissioners and special advisers would queue into the programs with a view to bring governance back to people.

“Permit me to remind you few of these which amount to challenges or opportunities as the case may be that you will face in the office from poorly built infrastructure to the total lack of them, inadequate teaching personnel; from physical rascality to the pure rape of our common wealth; unlawful acquisition of lands from familiocrazy to nepotism,” Ihedioha remarked.

Governor Ihedioha noted that he would set up governance delivery unit to periodically measure their performance as well as guide them.

He charged the commissioners to provide good leadership in their respective ministries and remain committed in the discharge of their duties.

“I therefore enjoin you and as you become part of the team today you should endevour to fit in and I am certain you will get accommodated. Queue into our programs as detailed in not just our campaign manifesto but also our agenda as said to our transition committee as well as pronouncement and actions since assuming office,” the Governor directed.

Responding on behalf of other commissioners, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Viola Onwuliri, said they would serve with passion to make Imo State work again.

According to Professor Onwuliri, “we will follow His Excellency in that commitment in the zeal to rebuild Imo state. We are going to hit the ground running to ensure that imolites will be happy again.”

The member representing Njaba state constituency, Mrs. Uju Onwudiwe, expressed confidence that the commissioners would perform optimally.

In the words of Mrs. Onwudiwe, “we need to help them, we need to be there for them, we need to come together to take decision on behalf of Imo State. We are talking about lmo State and when it concerns Imo State. Is not just about commissioners, both elective, appointive, the masses. I believe that his excellency has used his eagle eyes to select these capable commissioners and I know that they will never disappoint Imolites.”

The highlight of the event was assigning of portfolios to eighteen commissioners.
