FRSC TO ENSURE SAFETY OF VEHICLES TO BE DEPLOYED FOR ELECTION DUTIES
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced the inspection of vehicles that will be used for movement of election materials in the upcoming elections in the country.
The new Sector Commander of the corps in Anambra State, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, made this known while briefing journalists in Awka.
Mr. Kumapayi said the corps had reached out to major transport operators, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW); Road Transport Employers Association and other fleet owners to turn in their vehicles for inspection.
He explained that the purpose was to ensure that all vehicles meant for the movement of election materials were in good condition to ensure seamless distribution of election materials.
The Sector Commander pointed out that the condition of the tyres, lighting system, break, wiper and other essential variables would be checked to ascertain their suitability, emphasing that effective distribution of materials was crucial to the success of the polls.
Mr. Kumapayi, who replaced late Sector Commander Sunday Ajayi that died in an auto crash in December last year, said the command had concluded arrangements for deployment of personnel and equipment for quick response to emergencies.
He said as part of Inter-agencies Consultative Committee on Election Security, FRSC was working in effective collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the success of the elections.
Mr. Kumapayi, who said the command would organise training for its personnel on their expected roles during the poll commended the media for collaborating with it in educating members of the public.
