CRISIS MAR APC CONGRESS IN IMO STATE

The Nationwide Ward Congress of the All Progressives Congress held in Imo State amidst crisis and allegations of irregularities.

Clash of interest between the APC controlled State Government and other Chieftains of the APC was said to be responsible for the hitches experienced during the exercise.

Radio Nigeria observed that parallel congress elections were held in Anara and Amaraku, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area as well as some other wards across the State.

Yet to be identified youths had besieged the State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri 10 o’clock  in the morning to protest what they  described as planned irregularities and later proceeded to the Party’s Secretariat in Okigwe Road where they allegedly destroyed chairs  and canopies mounted in front  of the Party office.

The Representative of Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Chief Hope Uzodinma, who was among APC Chieftains that stormed the Police Headquarters in Owerri said the congress was held despite pockets of violence observed in some parts of the State.

One of the APC Governorship aspirants and Chief of Staff to Governor Okorocha, Mr. Uche Nwosu told newsmen at the Police headquarters, Owerri that election materials were hijacked by some individuals but noted that security agents were working  hard to recover the items.

Efforts to get reactions of the Police were unsuccessful as neither the Command’s spokesman, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, nor the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, was willing to talk to newsmen.

The APC State Chairman, Dr. Hilary Ekeh, who spent four hours at the Police headquarter was later whisked away by security operatives in company of the CP to an unknown destination.
