ANAMBRA STATE INTRODUCES MENINGITIS-A IN ITS ROUTINE IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMME
Anambra State Government wants nursing mothers and caregivers to take the health of their children seriously.
Governor Willie Obiano gave the advice during the introduction of Meningitis A into the Routine Immunization held at Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. John Ndibe, Governor Obiano said the introduction of Health Insurance Scheme in the state was to make health services affordable to the people of the state.
In a speech, the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu, represented by the Head of Department, Disease Control and Immunization, Dr. Nnamdi Uliagbafusi, described meningitis as one of the killer diseases in the country.
According to her, the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency introduced the vaccination of meningitis A into the routine immunization to protect children against killer diseases and improve their health status.
In a remark the Transition Chairman, Awka South Local Government Area, Mr. Leo Nwuba, thanked the governor for bringing the programme to his area and promised to ensure that the event was a success.
Some women whose children were vaccinated during the event, including Mrs. Amaka Okoye and Mrs. Rita Okafor commended the state government for the gesture.
