ANAMBRA FACTIONAL SPEAKER CONDEMNS SEALING OFF OF THE ASSEMBLY COMPLEX

The factional Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Ikem Uzozie has expressed displeasure over the sealing of the Assembly complex by the Police.

Mr. Uzozie expressed this unhappiness while briefing newsmen in Awka, the State capital.

He claimed that there was no crisis among the lawmakers or within the premises that warranted the leadership of the house to request for take over and seal-off of the Assembly complex.

Mr. Uzozie said that taking-over and sealing-off of the complex by the Police was illegal and unconstitutional and was not authorized by him.

He was of the opinion that anybody who had any reservation with the removal of the embattled Speaker, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu, should go to court for the determination of such issue.

According to Mr. Uzoezie, the State House of Assembly remains one of the most peaceful state assemblies in the country and frowned at the directive of the house workers to be reporting to the Office of the Head of Service.

Mr. Uzozie therefore said the new leadership of the House of Assembly would continue to work together with security agencies in the state to enable Governor Willie Obiano deliver good governance to the people of the state.

He expressed the confidence that the Police would unseal the complex before Thursday this week to enable them to perform their duties.

Several attempts made by Radio Nigeria to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Haruna Mohammed,on the issue proved abortive as his phone was switched-off as at the time of filing this report.
