“WE SAY NO TO THE KILLING OF OUR LOVED ONES” – UMUADA IGBO

DSCN9911The Enugu State Government has been urged to collaborate with various stakeholders and local Government councils to beef up security in the state.

The Umuada Igbo Nigeria and in Diaspora made the call at the Government House Enugu, during a peaceful protest over the recent massacre of innocent citizens at Nimbo community, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu state.

The association alongside other non-governmental organizations and some women from Nimbo community, including the concerned Citizens of Enugu State had placards with inscriptions such as “Rise against unprovoked attacks”, “The cruel bloodshed must stop”, “We say no to the killing of our loved ones”.

The leader of the protest, President General Umuada Igbo Nigeria Chief Mrs. Kafe Ezofor who spoke on behalf of the group, expressed dismay over the incessant destruction of lives and property, at Nimbo community which had rendered indigenous members of the area homeless and refugees in their own land.

One of the protesters Mrs Joy Onyeso appreciated Governor Ugwuanyi’s efforts in maintaining peace in the area.

One woman from Nimbo community who was among the protesters, Mrs Salome Ezugwu alleged that the Fulani herdsmen killed all members of some families.

Mrs Ezugwu lamented that most of their men had been killed and called on those in diaspora to come back and identify with their wives and children so that they could ascertain those still alive.

In a remark, the communications Director South Saharan Social Development Organisation Mr Boughein Uzaka who spoke on behalf of other NGO’s called on the government to urgently beef up security in every community within the state.
