Three people have been confirmed dead and many others injured in an accident that occurred in the early hours of today, 2nd April 2016, along the Enugu – Onitsha old Road, Obioma Town in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state.
According to an eye witness report, the accident involved a Galaxy bus with registration number LFA 375 XA said to be returning from Kogi state and a water tanker with Registration number ENU 211 XY.
An eye witness and Parish Priest, St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Obioma, Udi, Reverend Father Anthony Oluba noted that a similar incident occurred the same axis sometimes last year and commended the team spirit exhibited by the community to assist the accident victim.
In a reaction, the Divisional Police Officer Udi division, Mr. Wale Oyalkilome, who could not ascertain the immediate cause of the accident, however advised motorists over to always avoid over speeding whenever they are on the road.
The Head of operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ninth Mile Unit Command Mr. Edward Ihe-eme equally lamented heavily on reckless driving by the divers and lack of patient before over taking on the road.
Our correspondent Edwin Onuorah reported that the police and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps were at hand to convey the injured passengers to nearby hospital, and deposit bodies of the deceased in a mortuary as well as control traffic on the road.
