SUSPECTED CULTISTS KILL TWO BOYS IN OKPUNO, ANAMBRA

Two persons have been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident, which occurred at about three o’clock Wednesday afternoon, caused panic in the area as residents scampered for safety.

An eye witness, Mr. Emma Okoye, told Radio Nigeria that he was in his room when he heard gunshots and someone shouting, “I am not a member.”

He explained that about five boys suspected to be cultists stormed a tricycle office in the area, shot the young men and left.

According to some residents, one of the deceased, who was shouting that he was not a member, was shot on the leg before another shot him in the head while the other, who ran to a nearby shop, was dragged out by the suspects before shooting him in the head.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Tochuukwu Ikenga, said the two victims were rushed to the hospital where a medical doctor confirmed them dead on arrival.

He noted that the incident was a suspected attack by rival cult group and that combined team of anti cult operations and the B Divisional police personnel had commenced investigation to unravel the perpetrators of the barbaric act.

“The victims were rushed to the hospital and confirmed dead by a medical doctor on arrival.

“Meanwhile, the Combined team of anti-cult Operatives and divisional police personnel led by DPO B Division Awka is right at the scene. An investigation is ongoing to unravel the perpetrators of this barbaric act,” the PPRO added.
