STAKEHOLDERS URGED TO REPOSITION THE NYSC FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State wants operators of the National Youth Service Scheme, NYSC to come up with more strategies that will enable youths to contribute more positively to the development of the society.

He gave the advicee at the commencement of a three week orientation course for this year’s “batch C” corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre Local Government Area of the State.

The Governor represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Chief Okechukwu Umez-Eronini however noted that the scheme had continued to champion national integration and pledged his commitment to support its operations.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Chinedu Eloeboh appealed to the State Government to help set up a clinic in the camp to take care of their health needs.

He explained that some programmes had been put in place to prepare the corps members to the challenges of the service year.

A high court Judge, Justice Theresa Chikeka administered oath of allegiance on the corps members on behalf of the State Chief Judge, Justice Paschal Nnadi.

A total of One thousand, six hundred and ninety three corps members comprising eight hundred and forty six males and eight hundred and forty seven females were registered for the orientation.

Also, the Enugu State Government has pledged to engender an enabling environment for youths to optimally realise their creative and productive capabilities.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Mr. Uwakwe Azikiwe made this known at the swearing in ceremony of the 2019 batch C stream one Corp Members at the NYSC Orientation camp, Awgu Local Government Area of the State.

Mr. Azikiwe said that the Government would continue to articulate and implement policies and programs aimed at making youths central in the executions of the State’s developmental agenda.

The Enugu State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Stephen Dewan charged the corps members to pay attention to the Skill acquisition programs, which would enable them to contribute to national development.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Corps Member Liason and NYSC related matters, Mr. Chima Nnamani urged the corps members to access his office for issues concerning their welfare.

Two thousand, two hundred corps members were sworn in during the orientation.
