SOME STAKEHOLDERS IN THE NATIONS POLITY ADVOCATE EFFECTIVE BUDGET MONITORING AND IMPLEMENTATION.

The Chairman, Southeast Caucus of the National Assembly and, Senator representing Abia Central, Chief Enyinnaya Abaribe has emphasized the need for mutual coexistence between law makers and the executive to ensure implementation of capital budgets in the nation.

Senator Abaribe made the remark at a one-day conference in Enugu, on the theme, “the twenty-seventeen Federal Capital Budget and the South- East Zone: Performance Report.

According to Senator Abaribe , the rift between the executive and the legislature affects budget implementation in the country.

While declaring the event open the Chairman South-East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, represented by the Accountant- General of the State, Mrs. Queen Agwu said that the budget of the country did not favour the Southeast  Geo-Political Zone.

She said that the event was timely owing to the advantage of knowing the state of budget implementation.

The Director- General South-East Governors Forum, Professor Simon Ortuanya explained the imperativeness of budget implementation for the development of the country, saying that the performance report presented would form a catalyst towards implementation.

The Director Institute of Development Studies, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Professor Osita Ogbu in his submission on Federal Government Capital budgets implementation in the Southeast Zone noted that abandoned projects in the zone were numerous.

He called for sustained collaboration with various levels of government concerned with budget monitoring and implementation.

The conference, which was aimed at presenting and disseminating a community Based report on the performance of the just ended twenty-seventeen budget, was organized by the Southeast Governors Forum in collaboration with a Non-governmental organization, Voice to the People and Institute for Development Studies, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
