SET UP TASKFORCE TO MONITOR MIGRANT HERDSMEN IN THE BOUNDARY AREAS, THE SARAKI HAUSA COMMUNITY TELLS EBONYI GOVT.

A Socio-Cultural Organization, Ochie Igbo has embarked on sensitization of herdsmen in the South East zone to prevent clashes between them and farmers in the area.
At one of such events in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the National President of the Organization, Dr.Chukwuma Orji, in a message, called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to de-escalate tension arising from herdsmen-farmers clashes in the country.
Represented by the Chairman Board of Trustees of the Organization, Mr. Benedict Okoro, Dr. Orji explained that the sensitization had become imperative in view of the recent attacks in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State.
Dr. Orji expressed concern that tension in Benue State could trigger migration of more herdsmen to South East zone.
The Saraki Hausa Community in Ebonyi State, AlhajiDanjumaGambo, described the programme as timely pointing out that with the tension in neighbouring Benue State, the Ebonyi State Government should consider setting up a taskforce to monitor the activities of migrant herdsmen in the boundary areas.
Contributing, the State Chairman Miyetti Allah Breeders Association of Nigeria, Ado Amadu and the Coordinator Association of Town Union Presidents in Afikpo North, AlhajiOgbonnaya Amah, stressed the need for the government to reconstitute its Committee on Herdsmen for urgent response to complaints.
A Representative of the Ebonyi State Government at the event, Apostle Benjamin Obaji, explained that it would do everything within its reach to ensure that the prevailing peaceful co-existence between residenct herders and their host communities was not compromised.
Apostle Obaji however called on the Leadership of the Herdsmen to establish contacts with their counterparts residing in neighbouring states to monitor the movement of migrant ones.
