SECURITY CHALLENGES REQUIRE COLLECTIVE EFFORT – OKOROCHA

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State says containing the security challenges facing the nation requires the collective effort of okorochaevery Nigerian.

The Governor stated this during the inauguration of Imo State Peace Advocate Corps in Owerri.

The Peace Advocate Corps is a voluntary organization set up by the Imo State government to foster peace and unity especially in the rural areas.

Inaugurating the group, Governor Rochas Okorocha noted that peace was essential to the development of every society, hence must be pursued vigorously.

The Commandant General of the Corps and Special Adviser to Governor Okorocha on Peace and Conflict Resolution, Chief Peter Ohagwa said more than three hundred volunteers had been trained on conflict management in the state.

The Director General Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution Abuja Professor Oshita O. Oshita regretted that huge resources that could have been utilized for developmental projects were been used to fight insecurity in the country.

The Acting Director-General Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Mr. Micheal Oluwole commended the Imo state government for being proactive in maintaining in the area.

He gave an assurance that FRCN would continue to package programmes aimed at promoting peace in d country

There were goodwill messages from the Executive Secretary National Human Rights Commission Professor Ben Angwe and the Acting Director General National Orientation Agency, Mrs Ngozi Ekeoba.

Twenty persons some of whom were traditional rulers were honoured during the event for championing peace in their communities.
