ROBBERS KILL FOUR BULLION VAN POLICE ESCORTS IN EBONYI

Reporter: AMECHI ODO

Four police escorts have been shot dead while others sustained various degrees of bullet wounds following an attack on a Bullion Van at Ezzamgbo Junction of Enugu Abakaliki highway.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Loveth Oda, told Radio Nigeria in a telephone interview that the Bullion Van was conveying money from Enugu to a commercial bank in Abakaliki when the armed robbers struck at Ezzamgbo Junction in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

She stated that the suspected armed robbers, who operated with two cars, took advantage of gridlock often witnessed at the on-going flyover construction at Ezzamgbo Junction to box in the bullion van and opened fire on the escorts.

The PPRO however pointed out that the robbers, who headed back to Enugu immediately after the attack, did not succeed in carting away the money as they could not access the bullion Van.

Meanwhile, the corpses of the slain police escorts were still lying at the Police Command Abakaliki as at the time of writing this report.
