POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS URGED TO PRIORITIZE THE WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE

Political office holders are advised to be committed to the wellbeing of the people to justify the mandate given to them.

The traditional rulers in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State gave the advice at the end of their meeting at the Council Headquarters, Ndeabor.

The Royal Fathers explained that as custodians of people’s culture and values they had the statutory role of demanding from the people especially those in leadership positions for good governance.

They commended the developmental strides of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in the State especially in the rural areas and expressed joy that such was being replicated in Aninri Local Government Area with Chief Ben Alukwu as the Transition Chairman.

One of them and the Traditional ruler of OhofiaOduma, IgweOnyiaohaNwanjoku described the appointment of Chief Alukwu as blessing to the people, noting that every community had been impacted by his administration.

Also speaking, the Traditional ruler of EmudoNenwe, IgweGodymore Orji and that of EkoliOkpanku, Professor Sam Ukpabi said some of the projects that caught their attention were, renovation of the Council headquarters, extension of rural electrification, road reconstruction, regular water supply, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, among others.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu who spoke in his dialect commended Chief Alukwu,noting that the area was witnessing real transformation.

The Transition Chairman, Aninri Local Government Area, Chief Ben Alukwu said the fund accrued to the Council was being used to better the lot of the people and thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for the opportunity.

The PDP Chairmanship Candidate for the November four Council election in the state, Chief Ezekiel Chukwu who received the blessings and support of the royal fathers expressed his readiness to serve the people if elected.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Relations Chief Okezie Nwanjoku and the Senior Personal Assistant to Governor Ugwuanyi on Rural Development, Mr. Uche Ogbonna were among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
