POLICE RESCUE US BASED COUPLE 3 DAYS AFTER THEIR KIDNAP IN OWERRI, ARREST 2 SUSPECTS

The Imo State Police Command has rescued a United States of America based couple three days after their abduction by suspected kidnappers.

Mr. Emmanuel Ufommadu, his wife and younger brother were heading to a hotel in Owerri after arrival to the state when the vehicle conveying them was allegedly hijacked by the suspects, who were disguised in military uniforms.

The victims were later dispossessed of cash, vehicle and other valuables worth over $50,000 and taken to a bush in Asaa, Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Imo State Command, Mr. Dasuki Galadanchi, while parading three suspects for their alleged roles in the crime said they were arrested at a hotel in Owerri by his men following a tip off.

He said though the kidnap was not reported to the police, the suspects who were apprehended while lavishing dollars in the hotel assisted the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in rescuing the victims.

One of the victims, Mrs. Joy Ufommadu who narrated her experience, said the suspects took their ATM cards, blindfolded them and threatened to kill them in custody.

Some of the suspects, including Chijioke Jonathan, who hailed from Njaba and Godfrey Iwuji from Nwangele, both of Imo state, confessed to the crime.

The suspects explained that the operation was facilitated by some members of their gang who were now at large.
