The Police Command in Anambra State says it has rescued two suspects who are about to be lynched by an angry mob at the Total Junction, Ihiala.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement said the police operatives rescued them on Wednesday.
The statement explained that it was not a case of ritual killing but a pure incident of murder.
The statement said that preliminary information revealed that the two suspects, a man and a woman, who were humiliated and paraded, as shown in a viral video by the angry mob, were erroneously accused by the mob as they were seen at the scene where the murder took place.
It pointed out that the suspects were currently receiving treatment in the hospital while the deceased had been deposited in a morgue.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, while reacting to the incident, called for calm and ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive investigation.
