POLICE BURST ‘HANDBAG SNATCHING SYNDICATE’ IN ANAMBRA, ARREST ONE

The Police Command in Anambra State says it has arrested one Arinze Okorie for allegedly abducting and robbing a man at Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

A statement made available to journalists by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Haruna Mohammed, indicated that the suspect, along side other gang members, who are now at large, lured their victim, Mr. Chimezie Abordike, through Facebook and robbed him at gun point.

The statement explained that the suspects took the man’s phone and ATM card, which they used to withdraw the sum of fifty one thousand Naira from his bank account while in captivity.

The statement pointed out that policemen attached to Ogidi Police Station and men of the newly launched Operation Puff Adder, upon tip off stormed Ilongwodo Bush where the hoodlums opened fire but were over powered by the security team.

It said that the suspects scampered for safety leaving behind the victim while one of them was arrested with two matchetes.

Also, the men of the Operation Puff Adder while on routine Stop and Search on Abatete Road at Ogidi, arrested one Uche Ognu and Chinecherem Nweke, who are both 19 years and allegedly specialized in using motorcycle to snatch handbags and handsets from their victims.

The team apprehended them shortly after they robbed one Mmesoma Nwokolo of her belongings, including her phone in Abatete.

The statement therefore warned the public to be weary of strangers and dubious Facebook friends in other not to fall victim of similar ugly incident.

Recently, one Ikechukwu Emereole from Irete village, owerri was lured by a female facebook friend and was robbed of his money and other valuables at gun point .
