PLANS FOR SPACE EXPLORATION IS STILL ON COURSE – DR OGBONNIA ONU

The Federal Government says its plan to embark on Space Exploration is still on course but requires deep involvement of Nigerian students in Science and Engineering.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, stated this while addressing old and present students of his alma mater, Izzi High School Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Izzi High School Abakaliki was established in 1958 as Izzi County Secondary School.

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who graduated from the school in the seventies following the disruption of academic activities by the civil war, urged students of the school to aspire to be engineers to contribute their quota to technological development of the country.

The Minister pointed out that the nation’s contemporaries developed rapidly as a result of their versatilities in all facets of science and engineering.

He called on stakeholders in the education sector to sensitize students to the importance of engineering as it was imperative for the country to actualize its plan for space exploration.

One of the old students of the School, who is the Provost College of Medicine, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Dr. Paul Ezeonu, appealed to the state government to initiate the process of returning Izzi High School to its original base.

Dr. Ezeonu noted that the relocation of Ebonyi State University Isieke Campus, which is presently occupying Izzi High School, would pave the way for the development of the school to world standard.

Highpoint of the visit was donation of computer sets and Laboratory equipment by the Minister.
