Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Set to Reposition Nursing Profession

A Conference to discuss the health needs of the Nigerian people and articulate ways of confronting the challenges facing Nursing Profession in Nigeria is to be held in Anambra State.

The Secretary-General and Registrar of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, AlhajiFarukAbubakar made this known while briefing newsmen on its fifteenth Biennial Nursing and Midwifery Conference in Awka.

The aim of the conference is to bring together Nursing Leaders in Nigeria to discuss issues and developments that have implications for Nursing Education and Practice in Nigeria.

According to AlhajiAbubakar, the forum will serve as a platform for exchange of ideas, experiences and networking opportunities among various Nursing Leaders in the country.

He said participants would receive reports on the activities of the Council as the regulator of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Practice, as well as disseminate information about developments in Nursing Education and Practice.

AlhajiAbubakar was also of the view that the event would identify ways by which the council could support and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Nursing Education and Practice in public and private sectors.

AlhajiAbubakar who commended the Anambra State Government for its support, said the forum would also be used to encourage harmony and team spirit within the Nursing Profession.

The six-day event which will feature paper presentations has as its theme, “Repositioning Nursing and Midwifery Work Force for the Achievement of Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria”.
