NPC CONDUCTS TRAINING AHEAD OF 2019 NIGERIA EDUCATION DATA SURVEY

The National Population Commission has commenced training for some member of the organisation for the Nigeria Education Data Survey, NEDS.

The training, which is preparatory to the house numbering and listing, taking place in Enugu State, is expected to cover the five States in the South-East Zone.

They are Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.

The 2019 Nigeria Education Data Survey, NEDS, is the fourth in the series.

The event, organised every five years, is to generate timely and reliable data to enable policy makers in the education sector to make informed decisions.

It is also among other things to facilitate the achievement of Nigeria’s Universal Education and Education for All goals, for children of school age.

Giving more insight into the project, the Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State in the National Population Commission, Mr. Ejike Eze, noted that the project was mainly funded by the World Bank and the National Population Commission as a means of data collection.

The Enugu State Director, National Population Commission, Miss Ngozi Onyia, who identified poverty as a major hindrance to education in the country, pointed out that the fourteen people being trained would carry out their assignments in five selected Local Governments in Enugu State.

The Anambra State Director of the Commission, Mr. Joachim Ulasi, and the Coordinator of NEDS from the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Matthew Nganjiuzo, stated that surveys had enabled the government to strategize actions in the education sector.

For two of the participants in the training, Mr. Jacklin Duru from the National Population Commission, Imo State and Mrs. Nwakaego Nwachukwu from Ebonyi State, the six-day exercise is all about having improvement in the sector.

The exercise, which targets children from 4 to 16 years, is to ensure that children within the school age have access to quality education, especially those from the 17 identified educationally disadvantaged States in the country.
