NIMC DECENTRALISES NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD REGISTRATION IN ABIA

The Coordinator, National Identification  Management Commission (NIMC) in Abia State, Mr. Chika Ogbonna, has called on residents of the state to get enrolled and obtain their National Identification Number. The State Coordinator of NIMC made this known while speaking on activities to mark the 2020 National Identity Day in Umuahia.

He explained that the day, which was first marked in the country on  September 16, 2018, was aimed at sensitising the people to the importance of data collection to enhance effective planning and good governance.

Mr. Ogbonna noted that the commission had decentralized registration centres to all the local government areas of the state and urged residents to ensure they obtain their National Identification Number as there were lots of benefits inherent.

The State Coordinator pointed out that the eleven digit number issued to people that registered with the commission was unique, noting that the agency was working out modalities with INEC to develop a good database to enhance the electoral process. The theme for the 2020 event is “Identity to Health, Sustainable Development for Growth.”
