strike2The three week old strike embarked on by members of the Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals has been suspended. The National President of the Union, Comrade Obinna Ogbonna announced this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Union’s NAC and NEC meeting at the Orthopedic Hospital Enugu.

The labour leader explained that the suspension was to give government time to address their grievances or they would continue the strike after one month.

Comrade Ogbonna pointed out that the Union had been on the industrial action since the sixth of March over several issues ranging from lack of basic working equipment for diagnosis and treatment of patients, shortage of manpower in its various professions to adjustment of the CONHESS Salary Structure since 2014.

He called on members of the Union all over the country to resume work immediately and await further directive. Some members of the Union, Comrades Paul Salufu, Ben Asogwa and Happiness Oyiji said that the strike was suspended due to the consideration of those who could not afford treatment outside the country and the intervention of the House of Representatives  Committee on Health.
