NIGERIA CUSTOMS IN OWERRI IMPOUNDS GOODS WORTH ABOUT #200M

The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit “Zone C” Owerri has impounded goods with the duty paid value of about two hundred million within the last month.

The Comptroller in charge of the Zone, Mr. Kayode Olusemire made this known while displaying goods seized along Owerri-Port Harcourt road and Benin-Onitsha expressway.

He said the goods were over One million bags of fifty kilogrammes of foreign rice concealed in genuine goods, eight exotic vehicles smuggled into the country through land borders, used tyres and refrigerator compressors.

Others include cartons of high dose tramadol, codeine, cannabis sativa, bottled sauce and one hundred and forty nine bales of used clothes.

Briefing Journalists, the Comptroller of Customs, FOU “Zone C” Owerri Mr. Kayode Olusemire warned that the service was determined to end smuggling into the country.

Mr. Olusemire said a total of six suspects were arrested in connection with the crime while efforts were being intensified to apprehend others who were still at large.

He explained that the Service would soon commence online auctioning of the seized items and urged those interested to log on to its website.
