NEW NAIRA NOTES: EBONYI RESIDENTS DECRY SCARCITY AT BANKS, URGES CBN TO INTERVENE

Bank Customers have expressed frustration over their inability to withdraw money from the Automated Teller Machines ATMs) in various banks in Abakaliki Ebonyi State.

One of them, who spoke with Radio Nigeria in one of the commercial banks at Water Works Road Abakaliki, Miss Chidinma Udu, explained that it was only one machine that was dispensing cash when she arrived at her Bank.

She observed that it was unfortunate that after queueing up for hours she could not withdraw money as cash got exhausted in the only serving machine.

Also, Mr. Chidi Michael, who came to make withdrawals but could not find any ATM dispensing cash in his Bank called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to monitor the activities commercial banks in Abakaliki as they were not interested in circulating the redesigned Naira notes.

He emphasized that the situation was worsened by the daily limit withdrawal of N20,000, which many banks had set their machines to dispense.

The situation was the same at Ogoja Road, Afikpo Road and Ezza Road as many customers, who visited their banks, had to wait endlessly in a queue to make withdrawals from only one or two machines.
