NBA SECRETARIAT IN ENUGU GUTTED BY FIRE

A building at the Secretariat of the Nigerai Bar Association , Enugu branch  located along Court Avenue, GRA Enugu has been destroyed by fire.

The fire incident which occurred last Monday razed the two-storey building used for business activities.

One of the occupants of the building who spoke with our correspondent claimed that property worth millions of naira were lost in the inferno.

He blamed the outbreak on electrical faults and called on the government and public spirited individuals to come to his aid.

However, another occupant of the building, Mr. Okeke Paul who operates a refreshment joint alleged that the fire outbreak was caused by the illegal activities of his neighbor.

The Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Enugu Branch, Mr. Nnamdi Otukwu explained that formal complaint had been lodged with the Enugu Central Police Station.

When contacted, the Secretary of the Nigeria Bar Association Enugu branch, Mrs Joy Gbanigo who is in charge of the property described the incident as unfortunate and denied knowledge of any illegal activity in the premises.

Mrs. Gbanigo said that the Association was arranging to pull down the remnant of the building to forestall human casualty.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu confirmed that he had got a complaint concerning the incident and had commenced investigation.

He advised members of the public to be vigilant and avoid activities that could ignite fire especially, this dry season.
