MINISTRY OF NIGER DELTA AFFAIRS DELIVERS RELIEF MATERIALS TO 2022 FLOOD VICTIMS IN IMO

The Federal Ministry of Niger-Delta Affairs has handed over relief materials worth millions of naira to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for onward distribution to victims of the 2022 flood disasters in Imo State.

The items included food stuffs, building materials, mattresses, grinding machines and sewing machines.

At a brief ceremony in Owerri, the Director Legal Services, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mrs. Sarah Okunade, said the gesture followed a need assessment conducted by NEMA after the disaster in the oil bearing communities in Imo State.

NEMA Head of Operations, Owerri, Mr. Ifeanyi Nnaji, who received the items said the Agency would work with its counterpart in the state to ensure that the items got to the people they were meant for.

He explained that NEMA would continue to sensitize persons living on the river banks with a view to mitigating the effects of flood disasters in the state.

The Minister of State for Education, Chief Goodluck Opiah, who hails from the Niger Delta community of state, commended the Federal Government for coming to their rescue after what he described as worst flooding as farmlands, houses and livelihood were destroyed.
