LECTURERS AT FUTO VOW TO RESIST ANY ATTEMPT TO ENROLL THEM IN IPPIS

Lectures at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO have staged a peaceful protest calling on the Federal Government to rescind its decision to enroll them in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS. The protesters who rose from an emergency meeting took to the campus singing solidarity songs stating their resolve to resist the new policy of the Government.

Speaking to Newsmen, the Chairperson Academic Staff Union of Universities, FUTO Chapter, Dr. Christopher Echerobia explained that the IPPIS did not take cognizance of the peculiarities in the University system. Dr. Echerobia insisted that issues like promotion of staff, sabbatical leave and age of retirement of university staff had not been factored-in in the IPPIS; situation he said would further worsen their condition of service.

Dr. Echerobia cautioned against taking measures that would further reduce the standard of learning, noting that rather than focus on the controversy IPPIS, Government should accord priority to adequate funding of the universities.
