LACK OF MOTORABLE ROADS CONFRONTING FARMERS IN EKWULUMILI COMMUNITY IN ANAMBRA STATE

Reporter : UCHE NDEKE

Lack of motorable Roads and inputs have been identified as parts of the challenges confronting farmers in Ekwulumili Community, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Some farmers in the area made the observation while speaking with Radio Nigeria Correspondent, who visited the area recently.

The people of Ekwulumili community are predominantly farmers. The town also has about twenty seven streams which make crop farming possible round the year. However according to one of the farmers, Mr. Frank Odigwe, the condition of feeder roads in the area has negatively affected productivity.

Another resident,  Mrs. Chinenye Ezeifedika, appealed to government to put more effort towards encouraging rural farmers to guarantee food security in the country. With about fifteen oil mills and twenty poultry farms, Ekwulumili will no doubt produce more foods, if the government agricultural packages could be extended to them. That was the view of Mr  Ben Ezeilo.

In an intetview,  the member representing Nnewi South Constituency one at the state House of Assembly,  Mr Sunny Ozorbialu, however said the present administration of Governor Willie Obiano has awarded three road projects in the area and expressed the hope that it would be completed in record time. Ekwulumili has four villages  namely  – Urueze,  Owelechukwu,  Isingwu and Umudim and shares boundaries with Unubi, Awkaihedi,  Ezinifite,  Amichi and Igboukwu.
