INEC SCALES UP CAMPAIGN ON PVC COLLECTION IN IMO STATE

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State says it is yet to distribute more than (500,000) five hundred thousand permanent voters cards that were printed between 2011 and March 2018.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Professor Francis Ezeonu, made this known during a road show by staff of the commission to further sensitive prospective voters in the Owerri to the need to obtain their permanent voters card.

In an interview with journalist during the event, Professor Ezeonu expressed regret that out of the over 100,000 cards that were received recently by the state, only 30,000 persons had so far collected their voters cards.

Professor Ezeonu urged those who were yet to collect their cards to visit the areas where they registered and collect them, noting that measures had been taken to make the exercise less difficult.

Professor Ezeonu said those who registered between April and August 2018 would receive their permanent voters cards before the end of this year to ensure that no eligible voter was disenfranchised.

He explained that the Commission would from next week display list of eligible voters at all polling units in the state noting that under-aged voters and those discovered to have engaged in multiple registration would be disqualified.

Professor Ezeonu gave an assurance to the people that the commission was determined to conduct free, fair and credible elections in Imo State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner led staff of the commission to match along major roads and streets in Owerri with flyers stating the need for the people to obtain permanent voters cards (PVCs).
