INDEPENDENCE: GOV. UMAHI CELEBRATES WITH POOR & ELDERLY, PROMISES HEALTH INSURANCE

Ebonyi State Government is to launch health insurance scheme for widows and the elderly in the state next year.

Governor David Umahi announced this during an Independence Party for widows and the elderly at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki.

Chief Umahi explained that the scheme, which would be captured in next year’s budget was to ensure that indigent elderly persons and widows who lacked care from their family members, received adequate health coverage.

He urged Local Government Chairmen in the state to create programmes aimed at providing health and dietary tips for the aged in the communities, noting that such services would make those in the villages feel the impact of government.

An Elder, Chief Vincent Nwode, and a widow, Mrs Eucharia Nwachi, commended the state government for creating a platform for indigent people to participate in the Independence celebration.

They however cautioned politicians to play by the rules, explaining that heating up the polity ahead of 2019 election would jeopardize the security of the State.

Over 1,000 widows and elders who participated in the party were given millions of Naira to enable them to celebrate the nation’s Independence and 22rd anniversary of the creation of the State.
