Gov. Ugwuanyi frowns at illegal construction on waterways.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has called on residents of the state not to erect structures on waterways to avoid the incidence of flood or erosion caused by blockage of the drainage system.
Governor Ugwuanyi made the call while inspecting the erosion site along Okigwe old federal road by Ugwuleshi Community in Awgu Local Government Area of the state, which washed out the road culvert because of blockage of the drainage caused by illegal erection of fences down the stream.
The governor who frowned at the cause of the erosion and the threat it has posed to the people of the community and its environs, promised that his administration would in spite of the present economic challenges, reconstruct the culvert not minding that it is a federal government project.
He told the people of the area to continue to support and offer special prayers for the progress of the state and the country in
general, assuring them that he was committed to his campaign promises to advance good governance in the state.
In his response, the Transition Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Stanley Okeke, on behalf of the people of the council thanked the governor for his prompt visit and his promise to intervene on the challenges being faced by the people of the area as a result of the erosion.
He said that the governor had always come to their rescue whenever they were in difficulties, assuring him of their prayers and support at all times.
Other dignitaries at the site include, the member representing Awgu South in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Nelson Uduji, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Patrick Ikpenwa, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Godwin Udughele, among others.
