GOOD VISION DESCRIBED AS RELEVANT FOR SAFETY ON NATION’S ROADS

The Federal Road Safety Corps says good vision enhances safety on the roads.

The Sector Commander of the Corps in Anambra State, Mr. Sunday Ajayi made this known in his office in Awka, when he received executive members of the Nigerian Optometric Association in the State led by its Chairman, Dr Chigozie Umeh.

Mr. Ajayi emphasized that drivers with eye defects constitute dangers on the highways and called for regular eye checks among them to ensure safety on the roads.

He said beyond, poor sight, there were other factors that could cause accidents that should be avoided and these included, use of phones while driving, bad tyres, over speeding and over loading.

On the request to collaborate with the Association on the forth-coming World Sight Day, Commander Ajayi assured the body that the command would continue to collaborate with it to ensure sanity on the roads.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Association in the State, Dr Chigozie Umeh, said the World Sight Day which would be held on this Thursday had its theme as, “Universal Eye Health”.

Dr Umeh believed that achieving one hundred per cent good eye sight among road users would go a long way to addressing crashes associated with bad sights in the country.
