GOOD FRIDAY: CATHOLIC PRIEST CALLS FOR ASSISTANCE TO THE POOR

Christians all over the world are marking Good Friday today. The day is set aside to commemorate the crucifixion of JESUS CHRIST and His death at calvary. It is observed during the Holy week as part of the Paschal Tridum on Friday preceding Easter Sunday.

Speaking on the importance of Good Friday, a Catholic Priest of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Chaplaincy, Awka, the Reverend Father Jude Barnaby, described the death of JESUS CHRIST as the beginning of salvation of humanity.

The Reverend Father Barnaby noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had resulted in churches everywhere having to celebrate the mass without the usual crowd of parishioners. He observed that JESUS CHRIST paid penalty upon mankind by dying on the cross.

The Reverend Father Barnaby urged Christians to see the death of Christ as the ultimate hope of the world and also celebrate with the poor, especially in this trying time of COVID-19.

Some Christians, including Mr. Obinna Achebe, described Good Friday as a day of sober reflection. For Mrs. Uzoamaka Ejike the crucifixion and resurrection of JESUS CHRIST was a clear indication of the love of God for mankind. She urged Christians to always emulate Christ and imbibe the virtues of Love, humility, selflessness and forgiveness in order to make heaven.
