FIRE GUTS EBONYI MAGISTRATE COURT

An Abakaliki Magistrate Court One sitting at the State Judiciary Headquarters has been gutted by fire.

The fire, which destroyed property estimated to be about 40 million naira, was said to have emanated from a spark in the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Transformer located within the complex.

The Chief Registrar of the Court, Mrs. Nnenna Onuoha, who spoke with journalists, said though no life was lost during the incident.

She noted that the fire destroyed some exhibits while sensitive documents and case files were evacuated by early responders.

Mrs. Onuoha explained that the fire would have affected the Registry and other sensitive offices but for the quick intervention of some staff members living close by as well as the arrival of Ebonyi Fire Service men who later put out the fire.
