ENUGU STATE EMERGENCY AND FRIENDSHIP CALL CENTRE : Short code 1-1-7

The Enugu State Government says it has upgraded the Emergency and Friendship Call Centre with short code one-one-seven to improve the government’s response to emergency. The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mrs. NkechiEneh announced this during a stakeholders meeting of Emergency Response Agencies at Government House Enugu.

According to her, the call centre which operates twenty-four hours, seven days a week will make it easier for the public to report life threatening cases and lodge complaints. The Commissioner of Health, DrFintanEkochin noted that the initiative would complement the services of the Enugu State Medical Emergency Response Department and highlight the activities of the government.

The contractor handling the project, Mr. EmekaOkafor said that all the mobile networks could be used to reach the representatives of the government that would direct any complaint to the appropriate authority or department. The meeting had in attendance representatives of the Department of Security Services, Nigerian Police and other Para-military agencies.
