ENUGU CHIEF FIRE OFFICER TAKES PALLIATIVE TO HOME LOCAL GOVERNMENT

A humanist, Mr. Okwudili Daniel Ohaa wants people at the grassroots to queue into various control measures put in place by the government to contain the spread of the coronavirus in Enugu State.

Mr. Ohaa, who is the Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, made the call while distributing palliative packages and other essentials to some indigent persons from Umueze Awkunanaw and Obuoffia Communities, both in Nkanu West Local Government Area.

The Fire Service boss, who lectured the people on various measures and guidelines outlined by government to check the deadly virus, explained that he undertook the exercise to cushion the effect of hardship imposed on the people by COVID-19.

The Chairman of the Council, Chief Nwabueze Nnamani, commended the Chief Fire Officer for supporting the State and local government efforts in mitigating the effects of the current socio-economic impact of the deadly virus.

Chief Nnamani encouraged other wealthy sons and daughters of Nkanu West to assistance the less privelged especially, during this pandemic.

The Member representing, Nkanu East and West Constituency at the House of Representatives, Mr. Noli Nnaji, said COVID-19 had become a common enemy and could only be brought under control when people worked together.

Mr. Nnaji who is the Chairman, House Committee on Aviation, commended Mr. Ohaa for assisting the poor and called on the people to abide by the guidelines outlined by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to eradicate the virus.

The Traditional Ruler of Amangwu Obuoffia Community, Igwe Moses Ohaa, commended the Chief Fire Officer for the gesture, and prayed God reward him.

Similarly, the Priest in Charge of Saint Luke’s, Methodist Church Nigeria, Umueze Awkunanaw Section, the Rev. Christian Nwadike, said the donation to the poor was a great encouragement to the people.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with Radio Nigeria, including Mrs. Ifeoma Ugwu, and Favour Ngene, expressed gratitude to the Chief Fire Officer for the donation.

Items distributed to the people included, bags of rice, noddles, facemasks and hand sanitizers
