EBONYI DISCHARGES FOUR COVID-19 PATIENTS, 16 CASES STILL ACTIVE

Ebonyi State Government has discharged four more patients, who have been successfully treated of coronavirus disease at its treatment centre at Unity Square Abakaliki.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the discharged patients included an index case.

Discharging the patients, Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike, explained that the number had brought to six, patients so far discharged at the centre after two tested negative last week and were certified free of the virus.

Dr. Umezuruike said though the state had recorded a total of twenty-two cases after fresh nine cases were detected during the weekend, the number of discharged persons reduced active cases in the state to sixteen.

He pointed out that the state government was stepping up measures to respond positively to the increase in new infections.

A Case Management Officer from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Macginger Ibeneme, commended the state government for its active boundary surveillance and contact tracing, noting that it would forestall community transmission.

The index case whose condition generated controversy in the last one month pointed out that he might have been a dead man were he not intercepted by the COVID-19 Taskforce at the state boundary and taken to the centre for treatment.

The index case, who is a father of six, and appealed to the state government to provide him with resources to restart life as his only means of livelihood had been caught off while he was in isolation for treatment.

The four discharged patients were later presented with Certificates of Recovery.
