COVID-19: NLC INAUGURATES LABOUR CIVIL SOCIETY SITUATION ROOM IN ANAMBRA

As part of efforts to curb the novel Corona virus ravaging the world, the Nigeria Labour Congress has inaugurated Labour Civil Society Situation Room in Anambra State.

The Situation room which is inline with the directive of the NLC national leadership is aimed at complimenting efforts being made by Government at various States of the Federation

According to the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress in Anambra state, Comrade Jerry Nnubia who is also the Chairman of the situation room, it will serve as an engine room for information dissemination and sensitization of workers as well ad citizens on prevalence, prevention and containment measures of COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the Labour Civil Society Situation Room would also embark on advocacy and social dialogue with Government as well as private sector employers to promote public health and protect workers employment.

The NLC Chairman explained that the Situation room would among other things engage Government on how best to gradually and systemically open up the economy for business.

In a remark, the Secretary of the Labour – Civil Society Situation Room on COVID-19, Prince Chris Azor expressed the hope that it would also serve as think tank to liaise and advice Government on more possible ways to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Other members of the Situation room include TUC Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu, NULGE President in the State, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ , Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi and Iyom Faustina Igbasi from the Civil Society Organisations.
