COVID-19: ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT DECONTAMINATES POLICE HEADQUARTERS, OTHERS

Enugu State Government has extended its decontamination exercise to the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Command.

The State Government also decontaminated the headquarters of Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria; and the Enugu Sports Club, Golf Section.

This is in continuation of the on-going exercise by government to rid the State of deadly Coronaviruse and other infectious diseases.

Addressing journalists after the decontamination, the Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Okwudile Ohaa, explained that the exercise was in tandem with the government’s strategic plan to have a healthy working environment for the residents.

According to Mr. Ohaa, the Police is one of the critical sectors considered by government to be disinfected because of the high number of people that visit the command on daily basis, and their involvement in the containment of Coronavirus.

The Fire Service Boss, noted that the State Standing Committee on COVID-19 headed by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, was working hard to identify areas with high human traffic for decontamination.

The Fire Service Boss, urged the citizens to abide by various preventive measures outlined by the NCDC, WHO and health professionals to check the virus from spreading in the State.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman, Enugu State Sport Club, Mr. Onyeka Onwe; and the Captain, Golf Section, Mr. Ofodile Okafor, said the exercise was in line with best practices world over, emphasing that coronaviru is a common enemy and must support effort to contain the virus.

An Enugu based lawyer, Mr. Nnadiume Offorkansi, eulogized the State Fire Service for taking up the job of decontaminating the environment seriously.

Mr. Offorkansi opined that heads of various agencies of government did not need to wait for the government to provide them with all they needed before they could perform their duties.

He commended the Governor for entrusting the agency with the responsibility of decontaminating the environment.

Since first of April 1, 2020 when the exercise commenced, the agency has decontaminated a good number of areas including, livestock markets in the State and other areas recommend by the committee on COVID-19 in the State.
