COME OUT EN MASS TO VOTE DURING THE RESCHEDULED ELECTIONS – POLITICIANS URGE NIGERIANS

Some notable politicians in Enugu have urged eligible voters to support INEC in its bid to conduct free and credible elections by coming out in their numbers to elect credible leaders in Saturday’s (February 23, 2019) rescheduled elections.

The respondents who made the plea while reacting to the postponement of last Saturday’s elections expressed the fear that the shift might increase voter apathy.

Nigerians, who were enthusiastic to exercise their democratic right to vote, woke up last Saturday morning to the shocking news of the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Many had travelled considerable distances to vote only to be devastated by the shift.

This, political watches described as a huge economic waste and might affect the turnout of voters during the polls.

But a political scientist, Professor Sam Ugwu, is of the view that the postponement would not affect the turnout to a large extent as many Nigerians were now more informed and eager to vote for credible candidates.

He advised INEC to use the one week period to put its house in order to restore the confidence of the people in the electoral process.

Also, the Chairman, Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Enugu State, Mr. John Nwodo, enjoined voters to brace all challenges and participate massively in this Saturday’s election for the promotion of good governance.

For the leaders, Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, inactive participation of voters in elections produced unpopular candidates.

Mr. Ezeugwu’ while commending Nigerians for their calmness, urged them not to give up hope.
