CALL FOR CAUTION AS PEOPLE PLAY PRANKS ON APRIL FOOL’S DAY Every April, 1is celebrated as April Fool’s Day or All Fools Day.
The annual event is characterized by playing practical jokes and harmless pranks with friend’s families and relatives, trying to get them to believe in ridiculous things.
The victims are usually called April Fools once fallen to the pranks.
Nowadays, the reverse is the case as some people have turned the day into an avenue to extort money or other valuable item from people.
A cross section of people in Enugu metropolis has divergent views on April Fool’s Day.
While some of them describe the day as fun filled, others express worry over how some unscrupulous people use the guise for harmful and dubious acts.
In an interview, a constitutional lawyer and human right activist, Mr. Nwabueze Ugwu, while condemning the attitude of those who take advantage of the day to engage in criminal activities, maintains that April fool’s Day is not recognized by government or any law.
Another respondent and Clinical Physiologist, Dr. Tobis Chukwudi Obi, explained that what makes the day special are the pranks played on people.
The respondents advise people to be careful and avoid incurring loss or damages as they play pranks on April Fool’s Day.
April Fool’s Day pranks and jokes last from six o’clock in the morning to noon in Nigeria while in some countries it lasts the whole day.
