ASUU -ESUT BRANCH SUSPENDS PLANNED INDUSTRIAL ACTION

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT Branch has suspended its planned strike following the intervention of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The Chairman of ASUU, ESUT Branch, Dr. Chinedu Agubah announced this while briefing members on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the State Government, the University management and ASUU  on the Union’s demands.

Dr. Agubah stated that the Government had approved over two hundred and seventy-one million naira for seven months monetization arrears and one billion naira for arrears of CONTISS/CONUASS.

According to him, the University management was directed to source for money for the payment of the balance of the arrears of COANTISS/CONUASS.

On the issue of poor funding of the University, Dr. Agubah informed members that the Government would set a Panel to ascertain the financial requirements and consult the people for solutions.

The Chairman said the union shelved the industrial action to give the government time to address other demands.

“I want to appreciate the Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his show of maturity and we want to give him benefit of doubt for him to have more time to address our demands and hoping fully well that he will do the needful”.

 Dr. Agubah directed all members of academic staff of ESUT to continue with their normal academic activities.

 “I want to direct all Academic staff members in ESUT, who are members of our great union, the union of intellectuals, ASUU to continue with their academic activities and do their normal academic work”.

ASUU-ESUT Branch had on the twenty first of last month, after a congress with some delegates from the national body, given the university management twenty one days ultimatum to meet its demands or face an indefinite strike.
