ASSEMBLY DEMANDS RELOCATE OF LIVE STOCK MARKET ABA
REPORTER: UZOMA NWANKWO
The Abia State House of Assembly has called on the state government to relocate the livestock market at the old Court Market Aba to the Good Morning Market Aba.
This they say is part of efforts to maintain peace and orderliness in the markets.
The decision, which was announced by the Speaker, Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa, as adopted by the house, was part of recommendations by its Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry on a petition entitled, “Encroachment and Constant Threat to Lives by Akwete and Nsulu livestock Dealers.”
The House also maintained that Akwete and Nsulu textile Dealers Association was distinct from the Livestock Dealers Association, hence should be accorded the right to operate independently.
The House, however, called on the government to assert and exercise its authority as owners of the Old Court Market Aba and regulate the activities and operations of various market associations in the state.
The House also entertained a matter of urgent public importance by the member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Mr Anderson Akaliro on the fire outbreak that destroyed the Community Central School, Ofeme.
The lawmaker prayed the House to mandate the state Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) to take necessary steps to urgently provide and restore teaching and learning in the school as well as forestall future occurrence.
The Speaker, Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa, noted that the house would make and strengthen laws aimed at forestalling indiscriminate bush burning, make perpetrators of such acts to take responsibility of damage and to ensure the provision of fire fighting equipment in public facilities.
