Army Arrests Kidnapper In Abia State

A middle aged man Chidibere Sunday has been arrested by the Nigerian Army 14 Brigade Ohafia in Abia state for alleged involvement in a kidnap case. Parading the Suspect at the Army Garrison in Ohafia, the Army Public Relations Officer, Major Sydney Mbaneme said the suspect was arrested at Nkporo a community in Ohafia local government through a tip off.

He noted that the suspect Chidiebere Sunday who claimed to be a native of umuda isingwu in Umuahia north local government area in connection with three others on the 6th of April kidnapped their victim at Aba and took him to their hide out in Nkporo.

Major Mbaneme explained that two of the suspects escaped during the raid while the four suspects also in an attempt to escape fell from the roof of a building and died.

The Army spokes person maintained that the Brigade was committed towards ridding the state of crimes and other vices in line with its mandate.

He enjoined Nigerians to always be security conscious and report any suspicious activities in their communities to security agents.

In an interview the suspect Chidiebere Sunday denied being involved in any kidnapping activity stating that he lived and work in Benue state but came down to Abia for the burial of his late father before he was arrested in a friend’s house by the Army.

Correspondent Lawrence Nwokedi reports that Items recovered from the hide out of the suspects by the Army include two AK 47 riffles, 9 Magazines loaded with 124 rounds of 7.62mm ammunitions, one Pistol, Six GSM Handsets, five point four million naira cash and a Toyota Rav4 Jeep with registration number Lagos MUS 428RZ..
